One of the most difficult things about eating with food allergies is that nearly everything has to be made from scratch. How to cope? Start collecting allergy free recipes - that is recipes that can be prepared free of the foods you are avoiding. Many of the recipes here are adapted by using substitutes for common allergens. While most of the recipes are free of the top 8 allergens, a few of them are not. Those that are not free of the top 8 call for soy based products such as margarine, yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, Sunbutter and soynut butter. If you are allergic to soy but can have dairy, the recipes would work great with dairy products. If you are allergic to BOTH, visit the Soy Substitutes Page. Many of the suggested substitutes on that page are free of dairy and soy. Not avoiding all of the top 8 allergens? These recipes can still work for you, too. If you aren't avoiding dairy, feel free to use regular milk or margarine. If you can have eggs, skip the egg substitutes like egg replacer or flax seed meal and use the real thing. If you don't need to avoid wheat, go ahead and use wheat all-purpose flour and omit the xanthan gum. If you have a question about how to adapt any of the recipes for your specific needs, ask me! If you want to receive a featured recipe via e-mail every month, subscribe to my newsletter here.
