It can be difficult to find allergy free chocolate candy that is dairy free and nut free so why not make your own? It's really easy to do! All you need are a few ingredients and candy molds.

While there are many fabulous allergy free chocolate candy makers out there, I decided to try making my own this year for Valentine's Day.  Even though they aren't too fancy (I'll leave that to the professionals), they are super easy to make and my kids were super excited to eat them up (I guess "fancy" isn't too important to them).

Allergy friendly ingredients

To make these, you'll need just two ingredients, semi-sweet chocolate chips and some type of oil.

We like to use Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips because they are free of the most common allergens.

For oil, I use coconut oil because I like the flavor of it with chocolate.  It comes in a jar and is solid at room temperature. Coconut, however, is technically a tree nut so do keep that in mind when you're choosing an oil. Canola or grapeseed are other options.

Recipe tips

Even though the ingredient list is short, you will need some tools to make this candy. First, you'll need some molds. I used candy molds from Amazon in heart and lip shapes for Valentine's Day. If you shop around, you'll see there are molds for every occasion!

You will also need something to pipe the chocolate into the molds. I used my Pampered Chef Easy Accent Decorator.

I don't sell Pampered Chef and am not an affiliate or anything, I just really like this decorator! It made piping the chocolate into the molds very easy and kept the mess to a minimum.

With that said, you can definitely make do without a fancy tool. Just pour the chocolate into a quart-sized plastic bag, snip the corner with a scissors, and pipe it into the molds that way.

You can also go freestyle and pipe the chocolate into shapes on wax paper. When the chocolate cools it will become firm and you can peel it off of the wax paper. These are a bit more delicate but make for nice decorations on top of cupcakes, etc.

I hope you have fun making these chocolate candies!

Instructions

  • Combine the chocolate chips and oil in a glass measuring cup. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between each time, until chocolate is smooth. (Be careful not to microwave too long).
  • Pour chocolate into decorator or pour into a plastic bag and snip the corner off. Pipe the chocolate into the molds. Lightly shake the mold to even out the chocolate in the mold. Place molds in the freezer for about 1 hour. Remove molds from the freezer, turn over and gently pop the candies out of the mold. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
