Food Allergy Coaching

Food allergies force you to change how and what you eat and can have a big impact on your diet and overall health. Food allergy coaching can be a useful tool in managing food allergies whether you're feeling overwhelmed with a new diagnosis or you've been managing for a while but feel that you could be doing better.

What is Food Allergy Coaching?

Coaching is a process that is pesonalized based on your individual needs. You will be given tools and information that will enable you to make informed decisions leading to an overall healthier life. This may include the following:

  • Diet evaluation and how to get adequate nutrients while on a restricted diet.
  • Reading food labels to identify allergens that you are avoiding.
  • Identifying foods that commonly contain the allergens that you are avoiding.
  • Cooking with food allergies including substitutions that can be used in place of the allergens that you're avoiding.
  • Managing special occasions that involve food (birthday parties, school parties, etc).
  • Organizing your kitchen to avoid cross contamination of allergens.
  • Effective communication with family members, teachers, friends, etc. about what your child needs to stay safe.

As a Registered Dietitian, my focus is to make sure that you or your child are getting adequate nutrition while following a restricted diet. As a mom to two boys with food allergies, my goal is to help you eat well with food allergies. That means surviving birthday parties, family gatherings, going to school, cooking with restrictions, traveling and eating out with food allergies - all of those things that those of us who live with food allergies deal with each and every day.

During your appointment, we'll work together to identify your challenges and needs and set goals to work towards not only surviving but thriving with food allergies. Appointments are done in person (in the Twin Cities metro area), over the phone or via web conferencing.
